P1-03 : THRILLER PROJECT 2008/9

Friday 7 November 2008

Constructive criticism from other groups
We had good use of effects, we had good camera work, good use of props for mise-en-scene.
It had a CCTV effect on one scene. We had good editing.

To improve we could slow the pace down as it was too fast. We should adjust the sound track. One group thought that the opening was too long.

P1-03 THRILLER ROUGHCUT

First stages otf editing

The first time that we went out and filmed some our footage in the first proper location was on the long road field. We filmed the zoom on the eye firstly then we film the lonely woman in the corner. We came back to the class room and started to edit the footage. For the eye we used vignette to give a rounded effect around the eye. We used two motion key frame points to create a zoom effect into the eye. At the moment we haven't used any effects on the woman because it is quite good how it is. The whole idea of the flashbacks is to reference the previous 'film', which we have based our opening on, this opening is a sequel.

Test footage

We went out in the school grounds to find some suitable locations. One place that we did find was in the art block. We thought that the chains were quite suited to our ideas. When we created our storyboard we added chains to our ideas as a flash back. We used an effect on the chains to make them more creepy, we used find edges. Then we layered the footage so that they blended together so that we got a weird stylized type clip.

P1-03 THRILLER ANIMATIC

Wednesday 8 October 2008

Soundtrack

For our thriller soundtrack we used GarageBand. We collected different clips from the programme to create an eerie creepy opening soundtrack. At the moment our soundtrack fits with our story board but when we complete the film we may have to edit the track slightly so that it fits perfectly. Two of us worked on the soundtrack while the other was working on the animatic.

Camera Work
there was not much use of various camera shots or camera angles, we feel it was very basic in terms of different action shots and positions. Certain points were very effective such as the blood in the water as it conformed to the thriller genre. We feel that to improve their camera work they could of used more editing and techniques in their opening sequence!

Editing
there was little or no editing involved in this piece, however the little they did include went well with their type of film.

Mise-en-scene
The scene was very dark and in parts unclear to focus on, however the blood used in the water was very effective and worked well to emphasise the thriller theme. They used alot of contrast between the shots, from light to dark which didnt work that well.

Soundtrack
The soundtrack really went well with the opening sequence but was quite repetitive. It was more of a noise than a piece of music, and could have had a little more variation. The soundtrack was very morbid and added to the mood of the film.

Titles
the titles in this piece were very clear to understand and kept to only certain clips of blood in water. this was good as it gave a break in between each new title by having a small clip of some abstract and surreal filming. the titles were both clean and placed in good positions, for the audience to understand, without interfering with the filming itself.
